We whole heartedly believe all dogs matter!
Lost Boys Hope was founded in Barrie Ontario, May 2016. Since then we’ve accomplished, what some said was unreachable. We received our Non-profit status April 2017. We have rescued and successfully adopted 600 plus dogs, that number continues to rise weekly. We are trail blazers in rescuing dogs from Manitoba. Through building relationships with front line Manitoba rescues we have been able to successfully rescue more than 100 in a year.
Founder Kelley Ward has since founded the Ontario Rescue Alliance Group that has been successful in connecting Ontario based rescues to rescues that are over capacity in Manitoba. Without these already founded friendships this could never have been possible. Lost Boys Hope believes that working with other rescues locally and afar is the only way to make the biggest impact possible on the stray population. The phrase it takes a village really does apply in rescue. Since January 2018, the arms of Lost Boys Hope have stretched further than imaginable. We whole heartedly believe ALL DOGS MATTER, and because of that we have assisted rescuing dogs from around the world. Every dog deserves the right to live in such a wonderfully free country like Canada.
Although we are one of the largest foster based rescues in Ontario, our admin team is small. We continue to give the personal touch to everything we do! You will see our founder in the trenches with her team!!
Lost Boys Hope believes that every dog deserves as many chances as they need. Our mission is to focus on dogs in general. Our hope is to rehome dogs into a more suited and safe environment.
Our focus of ALL DOGS MATTER starts here; at home in Canada. The majority of our dogs are from Northern Manitoba Reserves where vet care and food are scarce. Dogs are left to breed causing extreme overpopulation in the 100s. Dog culls or shoots are a weekly occurrence there with no other quick solution to keep their communities safe. Although we start at home we have partnered up with some great international rescues in South Korea (pulling dogs from the dog meat markets with the help of Save Korean Dogs), assisting in Mexico with the street dog issue (with help from Backstreet Dogs), and assisting with injured dogs in Morocco (with help of Morocco Animal Aid) and Egypt (Furever Foster Rescue). Although we help where we can abroad, our heart is here helping the dogs in need in Canada.
Lost Boys Hope is a fairly new rescue (our 4th year) with experienced volunteers that have been working for many years for other rescues. Safely through an application process, and a proper home and reference check of the potential adopters; Lost Boys has adopted over 600 dogs. All of our dogs are placed in home-based fosters where they learn to become well rounded family dogs. The start of their journey here with Lost Boys is to get them familiar with rules and structure. Shelter environments are no place for dogs, especially the when they have trust, behavioural or abuse issues. They learn love, trust, kindness and that not all people are bad.
Lost Boys Hope believes strongly in spay/neutering and vaccinating all animals; it’s the only way to stop the unwanted from being born and contagious diseases from spreading. We make every attempt to have all dogs fixed before adoption. We want them all to live happy and healthy into their senior years. With a vet team, trainer, groomer, fosters and the communities on our side, our mission will be successful for everyone. Dog and families past and forever.
